How to test a cooling fan

Testing the cooling fan is as simple as testing a car battery. All you need a jumper wire with an alligator clip at both ends. Here are the steps: Locate the radiator and find the connector. Identify the positive and negative wire on connector.

Paper clip method:
Use a paper clip and connect positive wire to high and low speed on the connector. This should enable power and the fan should spin. If it fails to spin, the radiator fan is faulty and should be replaced.

Wire with alligator method: Disconnect the connector on the fan. Use two alligator gator clip wire and connect positive wire to the positive terminal and negative wire to the negative terminal of the battery. Connect the end of the wire to each terminal of the connector. This should power the fan. If it fails to power, the motor is faulty.

Check the fuse: Find the fuse for the cooling fan and pull it out. Take a look at the fuse and make sure it has not been short. Here is how to test a fuse

Check cooling fan relay: Replace cooling fan relay if all else fail.
